Learning in the love of God
PLAY MAKERS NEWS – July 2018
This year 16 of our Year Six pupils formed our sports Organising Crew. As part of this they all took part in the PlayMakers leadership training. The leaders planned games and activities for the younger pupils during some of their PE sessions and ran the Key Stage One Sports Day. They also set up and led break and lunchtime clubs such as football skills, dance and netball. Some of the pupils also took on leadership roles in after school clubs. We are delighted that all pupils passed their course and were awarded their certificate at the end of the year.
PLAY MAKERS NEWS – July 2017
This year all of our Year Six pupils have taken part in the Play Makers course. The course has been led by Mrs McCracken and has included pupils learning how to lead sporting activities. All of the pupils have planned and led games with the younger children, helped lead the Key Stage One Sports Day and many have given up their own time after school to be assistant coaches after school clubs. We are delighted to announce that all of the pupils have passed their course and have benn awarded their certificates. Well done Year Six. Keep up all your fantastic sport at your secondary schools!
PLAY MAKERS – 2016
We have invited our Year Six children to take part in Sports Leaders UK ‘Player Makers Award’ programme.
The Play Maker Award is a great introduction into leadership giving learners knowledge of how to organise small games and activities that can be used during lunchtimes, breaks, as well as in sports clubs outside school hours.
Participating in the award will help learners develop leadership skills such as organisation, communication and teamwork, as well as helping to build confidence and self-esteem as they take on the responsibility of assisting in leading their peers and younger children.
Once the children have learnt how to lead others they will be encouraged to use these leadership skills with their peers and younger children in our school.
Learners will all receive a Leadership Journal which they can use to record learning during the course. Certificates will be awarded once learners have completed the core elements of the PlayMaker Award and have put their learning into practice. Teachers, coaches, parents and other adults who may be involved in supporting the learner can also comment in the Leadership Journal.
We are funding the delivery and cost of the materials for this award using our Sport Premium. The Play Makers sessions will be led by Mrs. McCracken.
Change For Life leader training 2016
In order to prepare some of our Sports Organising crew for next year, seven Yr 5 children were selected to take part in Change for Life’ Sports leader training. They travelled to Lakelands School and worked with children from Market Drayton Primary. Activities included learning how to plan a session, how to write and give instructions and how to encourage and include everyone. The children were very enthusiastic about the training and are keen to get going running a club! Mrs McCracken, who accompanied the children commented on their superb behaviour and enthusiasm throughout the day.
We have now set up a Change 4 life club, which is run by Mrs McCracken. Pupils are invited to join the club and meet one lunchtime a week to participate in a range of activities.
