Learning in the love of God
PE and school sport has always had a high profile at Trefonen. We were the first school in Shropshire to be awarded the DFE ‘Active Mark’ in recognition of our commitment to providing quality PE. We went on to be awarded ‘Active Mark Gold’.
We have since been awarded the School Games Silver award 2015/16 and again in 2016/17 to recognise our commitment to School Games sports and competition. In 2017/ 18 we were awarded the School Games Gold award.
This year, 2018/19 we are delighted to announce that we have been awarded the School Games Gold award once again.
We aim for all pupils leaving our school being physically literate with the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for healthy lifestyles and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport.
Our PE curriculum promotes physical development and teaches pupils to value the benefits of participation in physical activity. It also helps to establish self- esteem through the development of physical confidence and helps pupils to cope with success and failure in competitive and co-operative physical activities. PE also contributes to the development of interpersonal skills and links between our school and other schools.
Each Key Stage Two class has selected two pupils to be the class Sports Ambassadors for the term. These children support the class teacher in setting up equipment, leading warm ups and encouraging others to be ‘sporty and active’. In the end of week assembly they ensure that children from their class have a chance to share any sporty achievements.
