Hawks Class

The children develop their P.E. through gymnastics, games, dance, athletics, outdoor an adventurous activity and swimming.

 

Dance 

In dance pupils continue to build on their ability to create dance routines from a range of stimuli including music, poems, objects and themes. They choreograph short routines to portray a particular mood or style and explore different styles of dance and develop short routines in a those styles.

 

Gymnastics

In gymnastics pupils learn to perform a range of balances with a high level of control and accuracy. They develop the use of different positions when balancing and use different shapes to express a given theme/mood. Pupils construct, practise and improve the composition and quality of their sequences. They learn to make informed judgements about their own performance and that of others. They can evaluate, adapt, modify and improve performances.

 

Games 

The children develop their knowledge of a range of larger scale games: striking and fielding games (rounders and cricket), net games (tennis, badminton and table tennis), and attacking and defending games (hockey, dodgeball, rugby and basketball). They develop their team play and use of tactics to be successful in a game. The evaluate their own and others performances in order to improve further.

 

Outdoor and adventurous

Activities include orienteering, both on and off the school grounds, archery, caving and rock climbing.

 

Athletics

Pupils continue to develop their personal best in a range of activities including short and long distance running, throwing and jumping.

 

Swimming

Pupils receive swimming tuition in the summer term. Children develop their technique when using a range of strokes, e.g. front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke. Pupils are expected to be able to swim at least Swimming 25m without stopping using a consistent stroke by the end of Year 6. Children also learn different self-rescue actions. e.g. using a buoyancy aid, treading water, the HELP position etc.
