Each year we invite our Year Five children to take part in Sports Leaders UK ‘Player Makers Award’ programme.

The Play Maker Award is a great introduction into leadership giving learners knowledge of how to organise small games and activities that can be used during lunchtimes, breaks, as well as in sports clubs outside school hours.

Participating in the award will help learners develop leadership skills such as organisation, communication and teamwork, as well as helping to build confidence and self-esteem as they take on the responsibility of assisting in leading their peers and younger children.

Once the children have learnt how to lead others they will be encouraged to use these leadership skills with their peers and younger children in our school. They also support the new Year Five children with their training once they are in Year Six.

Learners all receive a Leadership Journal which they use to record learning during the course. Certificates are awarded once learners have completed the core elements of the Play Maker Award and have put their learning into practice. Teachers, coaches, parents and other adults who may be involved in supporting the learner can also comment in the Leadership Journal.

We are funding the delivery and cost of the materials for this award using our Sport Premium.
