Hawks Class
In Hawks Class children are taught to:
- develop their techniques
- develop their control and their use of materials
- use techniques and materials with creativity, experimentation and an increasing awareness of different kinds of art, craft and design
- create sketchbooks to record their observations and use them to review and revisit ideas
- improve their mastery of art and design techniques, including drawing, painting and sculpture with a range of materials (e.g. pencil, charcoal, paint, clay)
- to consider and appreciate the work of a range of artists, craft makers and designers
- to describe differences and similarities between different practices and disciplines
- to make links between different practices and disciplines and their work
Children are taught to improve their knowledge and practise their skills in:
- painting using the cubist style
- still life painting
- portrait printing
- impressionist painting
- scientific drawing
- relief sculpture
Children will explore and use technical elements:
- Line, shape and colour
- Line, shape, colour and texture
- Fine line drawing
- Colour, tone, shading and tinting
- Line, Tone, form and texture in 3-D (layering texture to create form)
To support their development they study the works of the following artists:
- Ferdinand Leger - 'The City'
- William Kelf - 'Still life with drinking horn'
- Elizabeth Garrett - ' The Sharecropper'
- Claude Monet - 'Impression Sunrise'
- Marie Sibilla Merian - 'Cotton Leaf Physicnut with giant Sphynx Moth'
