Wrens Class
In Wrens Class children are taught to:
- develop their techniques
- develop their control and their use of materials
- use techniques and materials with creativity, experimentation and an increasing awareness of different kinds of art, craft and design
- create sketchbooks to record their observations and use them to review and revisit ideas
- improve their mastery of art and design techniques, including drawing, painting and sculpture with a range of materials (e.g. pencil, charcoal, paint, clay)
- to consider and appreciate the work of a range of artists, craft makers and designers
- to describe differences and similarities between different practices and disciplines
- to make links between different practices and disciplines and their work.
Children are taught to improve their knowledge and practise their skills in:
- Painting – Aboriginal dot paintings using symbols
- Sculpture – Animal Sculptures
- Printing – Famous Landmarks
- Drawing & Painting – Cave Art
- Collography
- Collage – Animal Patterns
Children will explore technical elements:
- line, shape and tone;
- shape and form;
- line & texture;
- line, shape, tone & colour;
- colour and texture.

- Niki de Saint Phalle – ‘Firebird’
- Katsishika Hokusai – ‘The great wave off kanagawa’ & ‘ Mount Fuji’
- Lascaux cave paintings
- Examples of collography plates
- Beatriz Milharzy – ‘O Biejo’, ‘ Marasia’ ‘Junior Mints’, ‘ Baleza Pura’.
