Indoor Athletics
2024
On Tuesday a team of 20 Year 5/6 children travelled to Ellesmere College to take part in the final round of qualifiers for the Shropshire School Games. We competed against six other schools, who had also qualified in their local area competitions. About 130 children were taking part and it was a very busy and exciting event. All schools took part in 6 track(obstacle relays, 6 lap , 1 lap, 2 lap and 4 lap relays and under over relays) and 6 field events (soft javelin, ball push, standing triple jump, standing long jump, vertical jump and speed bounce) in a boys team and girls team. Each event gained us points for our teams. Everyone worked incredibly hard and gave it their all-Mrs Jenkins and I were so proud of them. It was lovely to see wonderful support and encouragement for each other, alongside excellent behaviour.
At the end of the morning when the results were announced we were so excited and proud to have finished in bronze position for both our girls and boys teams. We have been told that some School Games medals will be delivered soon!
Congratulations Team Trefonen.
January 2024
A small team of eight children competed in three weeks of after school athletics meetings. They worked so hard in field events such as speed bounce, standing triple jump, javelin and ball push. They also ran a weekly relay race, sometimes with obstacles to get over or through! All the staff who accompanied the team each week were incredibly proud of how hard the team worked and how much effort they put into performing to their absolute best. After week 1 we were in 2nd place, in week two we finished first so going in to week three it was all to play for. At the end of the event we were all delighted to hear that we finished 1st out of all the schools competing. The team (and teachers!) were beaming as the children collected their very well deserved gold medals. We have now qualified for the North Shropshire finals to decide on the North Shropshire team that will compete in the School Games, what an achievement!

Key Stage One Indoor Athletics May 2022
A team of Nightingales took part in an indoor athletic competition at the Marches. We had a wonderful time and everyone in the team took part with lots of enthusiasm. The team took part in activities such as standing long jump, speed bounce, ball throw, target throw, javelin, standing triple jump, in the track events 4 of the children won their races and two came third after running three laps each in the paarlauf event.
We were so proud of our team and delighted to hear that the team came 2nd place overall.
Year 5/6 Indoor athletics 2022
Unfortunately, our team were unable to attend the first of three meeting this year due to high number of Covid cases, however they joined in the final two meetings. The team worked hard, achieving some good results in the different events including 3rd in both boys and girls javelin and 2nd in both the boys and girls Standing Triple Jump and 3rd in girls relay. Not attending the first meeting meant that we couldn't gain enough points to be placed overall, but it was great to be able to take part again.
