Year 3/4 girls football November 2024

A team of 10 year 3/4 girls took part in a football tournament at Oswestry School last Thursday afternoon. They were so excited and loved singing Christmas carols all the way to the venue! The weather wasn’t great from the start and we started the first game in rain. This did not put our girls off though, they were full of energy and enthusiasm. They settled in to their first game after a very early goal by the opposition and the game finished 1-0. This was to be our score for the afternoon as the next two games finished with the same score line. Our girls really got stuck in, defending so well and having so many great goes at scoring.  Well done to all the girls who played in some terrible weather with such positivity. Unfortunately we had to call the tournament off early and get back to school to dry off and warm up, so we didn’t get to play any more of our matches. Really well done girls, you did us proud with your behaviour, attitude and football skills.

Year 3/4 football October 2024

Eight year 3/4 boys and girls took part in football at Oswestry School on Wednesday morning. They were a superb team and played brilliantly. There were five teams in the competition and we all played each other in 20 minute games. Our team drew 1-1 in the first match, won our next game 4-0, won the third match 2-1 and even though we went 1-0 up after 30 seconds in our last match we lost 5-1. We were so pleased to have finished 2nd overall, a great result. During the morning we saw some excellent goals including a hat trick in one match! Great goal keeping and all round play from the children throughout the morning. What a super team, really excellent play, you should all be really proud of yourselves.

Girls football October 2024

Oswestry School hosted an excellent football tournament for the girls and eight of our Year six girls took part. They started the afternoon very nervously, but grew in confidence as the games progressed. They lost their first game 2-1, the second 1-0 (with a goal that no-one was sure went in!) and won their third game finishing third in the group. In the second round the team played really well and really showed how much they had learnt from each game played. Unfortunately, they narrowly lost their matches in this round so finished 3rd. We almost had to leave before our last game due to timings and the girls were devastated. Luckily matches were moved around for us, which gave us one last game. The best bit about the afternoon was seeing how much the girls enjoyed playing, they smiled and encouraged each other and just wanted another game each time they came off. They really were a credit to the school. Well done Mia too on your great goals!

Year 5/6 Girls Football

A big well done to the girls who took part in the football competition on Wednesday. We were very nervous to begin with, as most of the girls had not played in a match outside of PE lessons before. They really got stuck in and had a great go. They showed resilience and determination and smiled the whole time! I was very proud of them. We were drawn in a tough group against Whittington, Holy Trinity and Woodside who all played really well. Two of our groups teams got through to the final. We didn’t manage to win any of our matches, but Ida scored a goal, Abi, Emily and Ida all put in super effort at being in goal and Chloe, Elizabeth, Lacey, Emily, Chloe and Grace worked so hard and defended really well. We definitely improved our skills and tactics as the matches went on. Well done girls!

Year 3/4 girls football matches 2023

Last Thursday a group of eight Year 3/4 children represented the school in a football festival. They started the afternoon very nervously, but the progress that they made throughout the afternoon was incredible. The teams defending was excellent throughout. The first game finished 3-0. The girls were disappointed not to score but they had worked so hard and really begun to settle into playing. After the match they began to discuss tactics for the next match and knew what they needed to do to improve as a team. The next game was so close, we were drawing 1-1 until just before the end, with a super goal from Ava. Unfortunately the other team scored another and the game fished 2-1. In our final game we didn’t concede any goals, but we just couldn’t manage to score. The game finished 0-0. The team were an absolute pleasure to take and it was wonderful to see them all grow in confidence. After the festival finished we had a bit of time before our bus was collecting us so we played another game with Oswestry school and it was like watching a

completely different team from the first match played! Well done girls!

Year 3/4 football tournament 2023

Well done to the children who represented the school in the Year 3/4 football last Wednesday. They played four matches in their first group stage, losing two and wining two, with some great goals scored. The team finished 3rd in their group, but unfortunately didn’t qualify for the next round this time. All of the pupils played well, encouraged and supported each other and were great representatives of our school.

Year 2 football tournament 2023

Well done to our seven Year Two children who took part in a football competition on Friday. They were so excited and played with big smiles on their faces! All of the team gave it their all and they played well as a team. They scored great goals and made super goal keepers. The team worked well, defending and passing excellently. We were very proud of them all. The team drew two games, won one game and narrowly lost two games. All agreed that it was an exciting afternoon and they were desperate for even more games! The team were so respectful to each other and the other teams and were a real credit to the school.

Year 5/6 girls football tournament 2023

A team of Year 5/6 girls visited The Marches School to compete in the Oswestry area football festival. The festival was rained off in March and was played on a very hot day this time. The girls won’t mind us saying that they felt a little nervous before the matches started! Once they had warmed up with a Marches Young Leader and got going in their first match they settled so well in to playing. They lost their first match  2-0 , but were playing brilliantly. In the next match they drew 0-0. In the third match we took the lead 1-0, the other team scored an equaliser, but another goal from our girls took us to a win. The team went on to draw another game, then lose their last two. Our team were pleased to finish 4th  overall.

All of the girls worked hard and gave their absolute best.  It was lovely to see girls who were nervous and not really sure about playing growing in confidence from match to match and really surprising themselves. It was a real treat watching you girls!

Year 3/4 football 2022

Seven children attended the Year 3/4 football competition at The Marches. They represented our school brilliantly, with some excellent play. Unfortunately they didn’t win any games this year, but only lost by one goal in each match.

Year 5/6 football

Year 3/4 Football October 2022

A big well done to the Year 3/4 children who represented the school in the Oswestry area football festival at the Marches on Wednesday. A very nervous team set off to the Marches and found that they were playing in the first match in their group games. It was amazing how quickly they settled into playing and how they started working together well as a team. They lost their first game 1-0 to the team who went on to win the group. In the second match they became even more confident and defended so well but just couldn’t manage to score, losing 1-0 again. In our last group match the team scored a great goal and we led 1-0. A goal from the other team had the score at 1-1 until the last minute of the game when the other team scored again. Before we started, we said that the aims of our afternoon were to enjoy playing, to encourage each other, to play fairly and to go home smiling and confident and that’s exactly what we did. We all agreed that for the first time playing as a team together that even though we didn’t win our games the final scores were not too bad at all! All of the children did the school proud and it was lovely to see nerves quickly disappear.

Key Stage One Football festival

Six children were chosen to represent the school in a 5 a side football festival at Gobowen Primary School. The children were very excited and nervous but soon settled into their first game. They narrowly lost their first game 2-3 then went on to win their next match 3-2. In their final match their confidence really soared and they won 7-0. Well done to you all, you all played brilliantly and it was lovely to see good team work and some super goals!

Year 5/6 Football Tournament 2022 We played three 6 a-side matches at Oswestry School. We won our first game against Holy Trinity (2-0); drew against Oswestry A Team (1-1) and we lost our final match 1-0 against Our Lady’s. All the matches were so close. Caleb, Josh and David played defensive positions, with Sion making some excellent saves in goal. Alfie, Theo and Frankie all scored goals with midfield support from Louie and Corey.

Year 3/4 Football 2021

Well done to our Year 3/4 team who travelled to the Marches for a football tournament. They worked so hard as a team, winning their first game, drawing their second match and then narrowly losing their next match 1-0. In the second round the team won one match and lost one match. All of the children enjoyed the experience of playing other schools- it was lovely to be back at a competition after such a long break due to Covid-19.

Girls football 2021

A big well done to our Year Six girls football team who represented us in the Oswestry area competition. The girls became more and more confident as they played and were so encouraging of each other. In their group games the team drew 0-0 with Oswestry, 1-1 with The Meadows and lost 2-0 to Welshampton. Well done girls we are very proud of you!
