Uniform Information
Trefonen CE Primary School Uniform Policy – Updated May 2025
As parents/carers you have chosen Trefonen School for your child. As part of this choice you and your child have the responsibility to follow the rules and guidelines of our school.
At Trefonen School we believe that wearing a school uniform helps to create a sense of belonging and pride in our school. It reduces distractions, supports equality among students, and ensures everyone is dressed safely and appropriately for learning.
If you are experiencing financial difficulties in relation to school uniform, please contact our school for support with school uniform – we are always happy to help.
Clothing
- Trefonen School does not require any school uniform items to have a school logo and would encourage parents and carers to take the cheapest option (e.g. plain supermarket items).
- Please make sure that all of your child’s school clothes have a name in them. We can return named items of lost clothing very quickly. Un-named items are added to our ‘lost clothes mountain’! We are happy for parents to rummage through our ‘lost clothes mountain’ for any missing items, but regret that school staff are unable to do this.
- All items must either be plain or have the Trefonen School logo. No other logos or embellishments are allowed (e.g. Nike or other brands)
- At Trefonen School children wear PE kit on class PE days and school uniform on all other days.
- All children are expected to wear school uniform
- Children must wear a plain burgundy sweatshirt, jumper or cardigan, a white polo shirt, black or grey trousers / leggings / skirts / shorts
- Red gingham dresses and black or grey tailored shorts, may be worn in the warmer weather
- Tights must be plain black, grey or burgundy
- Socks - must be white, grey or black
Shoes
- Black or dark coloured formal shoes should be worn. Only flat shoes should be worn – no high heels. Trainers only to be worn on PE days. Black or dark coloured boots maybe worn in cold / wet weather, they should be smart, age appropriate and should not have a heel. Robins Class will need to bring wellies for their outdoor morning.
Jewellery and Other Embellishments
- Watches may be worn but will need to be removed for sport/PE activities. Smart watches or similar are not permitted.
- Only simple small silver/gold/ gem stone studs. Novelty/dangly earrings are not permitted.
- Earrings should be removed or covered with medical tape during PE sessions (please send this in with your child and ensure they can cover their own earrings). Staff are not permitted to help children remove or replace earrings.
- No other jewellery should be worn including bracelets, necklaces, rings etc. Simple jewellery worn for religious reasons may be worn.
- Nail varnish, tattoos/body art and make up should not be worn.
Hair
- Hair should be neat and tidy. Fringes should not be excessively long.
- Shoulder length hair or longer is required to be tied back in school to ensure safety during play, reduced contact and ease of working. This rule is for girls and boys.
- Excessive Hair embellishments, dyed/coloured hair and extreme hairstyles/cuts should not be worn. This includes lined, patterned, Mohican and grade one cuts and beading. Hairstyles should not cause distraction within the classroom, draw attention to the child and single them out from the rest of their year group.
- Hair accessories and/or embellishments must be small and restricted to simple hair bands, alice bands or hair grips. Simple, plain ribbons may be worn but large bows and hair bands and colourful/novelty hair adornments should not be worn. Hair bands, clips and bobbles should be a plain colour. Where a hair accessory is deemed to be inappropriate or distracting, the child will be asked to remove it and the parents/carers notified that it is unsuitable for school.
- For PE, all children should wear a white t-shirt and black shorts, leggings or jogging bottoms and a plain black zipped hoody (not a pull over hoody) or a Trefonen sweatshirt/jumper
- For gymnastics sessions, children are required to wear/bring plain black shorts to change into
- Trainers need to be suitable for sports activities
There may be the odd occasion when your child’s presentation may need to be outside of our school uniform policy e.g. lost jumpers, the washing machine has broken, new shoes have not arrived or it just doesn’t make sense to buy new shoes in the last few weeks of the Summer term. We fully understand this and are happy to work with you using a common sense approach – just let us know.
We thank you for supporting of our school’s Uniform Policy
