The children develop the knowledge needed to improve skills and tactics in striking and fielding games (including throwing and catching) such as cricket. They use simple attacking and defending in games such as football and netball and develop net and court games such as badminton, table tennis and tennis. Children continue to learn how to apply and follow rules fairly and how to evaluate their performance over time.

Children work on gymnastic shapes, symmetry, rolls and front and back support. They perform with increasing control. They create and perform sequences, linking ideas individually and in pairs, both with and without apparatus. They evaluate their own and other's performances sharing effectiveness and ideas for further improvement.

Children create and develop motifs in response to a variety of stimulus. They remember, perform and evaluate their performances. Dances are performed both individually and in small groups.

Children receive swimming lessons in the summer term. Pupils develop their technique when using a range of strokes, e.g. front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke. Pupils are expected to be able to swim at least Swimming 25m without stopping using a consistent stroke by the end of Year 6. Children also learn different self-rescue actions. e.g. using a buoyancy aid, treading water, the HELP position etc.

In addition children also use skipping and the 'Daily Move' to develop their fitness.
